Union Budget 2024: UPSC Gets Over Rs 200 Crore For Examination And Selection

A total of Rs 216.72 crore has been allocated for the expenditure in connection with the examinations, recruitment tests and selections conducted by UPSC.

New Delhi: Over Rs 200 crore have been earmarked for expenditure on "examination and selection" of the civil servants by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) in the 2024-25 Budget announced on Tuesday. The UPSC has been given Rs 425.71 crore for the ongoing fiscal in the Budget presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

Of these, Rs 208.99 crore is for expenditure on salaries and allowances of the chairman and members, besides administrative expenses, among others.

A total of Rs 216.72 crore has been allocated for the "expenditure in connection with the examinations, recruitment tests and selections conducted by the Union Public Service Commission", according to the Budget documents.

The Commission was given Rs 426.24 crore during 2023-24. The Commission conducts the civil services examination annually in three stages -- preliminary, main and interview -- to select officers of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS) and Indian Police Service (IPS), among others.

The Central government will provide Rs 1.48 lakh crore for education and employment and skill, announced Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman today while presenting the Budget 2024. Financial support for loans upto Rs 10 lakh will be given to students for higher education in domestic institutions. New centrally-sponsored scheme for skilling in collaboration with state governments and industries. About 20 lakh youth will be skilled over 5-year period.

The Model Skill Loan Scheme will be revised to provide loans up to Rs 7.5 lakh with a guarantee from a government-backed fund, aiming to assist 25,000 students each year.

A new Internship scheme will be introduced, offering opportunities for 1 crore youths in over 500 leading companies. Interns will receive Rs 5,000 per month and a one-time assistance payment of Rs 6,000.

The budget carries an allocation of more than Rs 3 lakh crore for schemes benefitting women and girls.

The government will upgrade 1,000 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) using a hub-and-spoke model.
