Lucknow University and AKTU cancel exams

Lucknow University and AKTU University, both in Uttar Pradesh, have cancelled their exams scheduled to be conducted in the month of July.

Now the university will await the UGC’s guidelines regarding the exams before taking any further steps.

Lucknow University was scheduled to begin its final year exams from July 7 and AKTU was scheduled to begin its semester exams from July 16.
AMU Postpones Final Year OBE

Aligarh Muslim University, or AMU, on Friday, announced postponing of all end-semester examinations scheduled in July until further notice.

AMU said that the exams are being postponed in light of the COVID-19 pandemic and the pending University Grants Commission (UGC) guidelines regarding examinations.
University of Rajasthan on Friday released the 2020 Undergraduate and Postgraduate examination timetable. As per the schedule announced, the university will conduct the exams from July 15 and the timetable can be accessed on the official website, uniraj.ac.in.




The university chose not to wait for the UGC guidelines on the final year examination. The undergraduate exam will begin on July 15 and will go on until September 7. The PG exam will also begin on July 15 and will go on until September 8, 2020.
The suspense around the pending Semester Exams 2020 for Final Year students is about to end soon, as the University Grants Commission (UGC), is all set to release the revised set to UGC Guidelines for the pending University and College Exams.

As per reports, an expert committee appointed by the UGC under the leadership of Haryana University vice-chancellor R C Kuhad, has recommended cancellation of all pending final semester examination that is scheduled to be held across the country in July 2020.
DU has released a new exam schedule for UG/PG Open Book Exams

Delhi University (DU) has released a revised timetable and the exams are scheduled to start from July 10th for both the courses. These exams were initially scheduled to begin from July 7 but were postponed by a week in view of the prevailing situation of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The UGC is expected to cancel the examinations amid calls to defer the exams as students' and teachers' bodies from across the country are demanding that the final-semester and final year exams should be canceled in view of the coronavirus pandemic, which has afflicted over 6 lakh people in the country.
A circular by education ministry regarding unblock2 sent to the higher education regulators -- UGC, AICTE, and NTA-- has directed the closure of colleges and educational institutions till July 31 and advised work from home for teachers, researchers and other non-teaching staffs.

Now, it will be important to see of the UGC postpones the final year exams of cancels it as the country recorded nearly 21k COVID cases in the past 24 hrs.
On June 23, Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS) released a circular stating that the medical and dental exams remain postponed until further notice. Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray had also requested PM Narendra Modi’s intervention for the postponement of PG examination for medical students enrolled in MD (Doctor of Medicine) and MS (Master of Surgery) courses in the state till December 2020.
What to expect from the new UGC Guidelines

1. The first thing expected is the uniform decision on the final year college exams.

2. If the exams are postponed and not canceled then the procedure to conduct the exams is expected.

3. If the exams are canceled then the guidelines regarding the new marking scheme is expected.

4. UGC had earlier shared a rough draft of how universities and colleges will work once they reopen. The colleges were expected to reopen from September for the new batch and from August, the students were to start getting enrolled. A change can be expected in this too.
Will the UP government decide on the college exams today?

Uttar Pradesh govt was expected to take a decision on July 2nd regarding the final year college exams. The state said that it will release the guidelines once UGC issues the fresh guidelines. Since the UGC has not clarified anything on the topic yet, it is now to be seen whether the state government will go ahead and decide on its own.

Among other universities in the state, Lucknow University is slated to begin its exams on July 7.
Odisha Govt Issues Guidelines For Online Teaching Of UG, PG Students

“In view of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Government of Odisha has instructed all Universities and Colleges to remain closed for the purpose of teaching till 31st August. This will result in loss of teaching days and may completely disrupt the Academic Calendar. Therefore, all Degree Colleges are to start online teaching as per following modalities, so that there will not be any disruption in learning during this period,” read the letter of Higher Education Dept of Odisha
Universities should not conduct examinations in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic and even holding online tests is not right as it is "discriminatory" towards poor students, former human resource development minister Kapil Sibal said on Sunday.
With another day gone, students continue to wait for the UGC guidelines. Many had taken to social media urging for these guidelines to be released. The candidates find themselves in a desperate spot especially with Delhi University announcing that its Open-Book exams will be held from July 10.
The upcoming UGC guidelines for final year examinations are expected to be based on the recommendations that it had presented to the government. However, no date for the announcement has been revealed.
The UGC committee has formerly been asked to come up with alternate ways of assessing students amid Covid-19 scare. Seeing the health crisis escalate, the committee's recommendation was to drop the idea of conducting exams.
Earlier, a UGC committee had sent its recommendation to the government where it had asked that examinations of final year students in universities and institutes of higher education across the country be cancelled. It had further advised these institutes to evaluate candidates the basis of previous semester exams and internal assessments.
IGNOU Students can apply for the Term End Examination (IGNOU TEE) online through its official website: ignou.ac.in. About 7.5 lakh candidates are expected to appear for the IGNOU TEE 2020 exams.
The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has extended the last date for submission of the examination form, projects and assignments till July 15.

The decision has been taken considering the students facing technical problems while trying to do the needful.
The information available on every DU admit card includes a candidate's College Code, Course Code, Student Type, Exam Type, Exam Roll Number, Enrollment Number, Name, Father’s Name, Gender, Date of Birth, Address, Email ID and Contact Number.

Serious concerns are being raised that such information when easily accessible, poses a risk of potential stalking.
According to users reporting the data breach on the DU admit card 2020 portal, the breach is made possible by public access to the college's gateway password with exam roll number linked to a candidate's name.
Users on Twitter have reported a data breach on the DU admit card 2020 download portal. It exposes the admit card details of all students such as their name, phone number, and home address.
DU Students can access the new datesheet for their open-book exams on the university's official website.

“The date sheets for the Undergraduate programmes as uploaded on the University website have been prepared as per the examination forms submitted by the students,” an official statement read.
Anxiously awaiting UGC's revised guidelines, several DU students have taken to social media urging for these directives to be released as soon as possible considering that their open-book exams begin on July 10.
Delhi University had earlier scheduled for final-year exams to begin from July 1 but they were postponed by 10 days taking cognisance of the Covid-19 situation in Delhi.
Meanwhile, Delhi University has released new datesheets for the open-book exams going to be conducted for final-year undergraduate and postgraduate students. According to it, the exams will be held from July 10.

Earlier, Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank had advised UGC to revisit the guidelines issued for intermediate and terminal semester examinations and academic calendar. The guidelines need to consider the health risk to teachers, students and other staff members into consideration.
The new academic session was earlier planned to begin from August for already enrolled students and from September for freshers. But now it is also likely to be postponed till October. The final information about it is awaited.
Meanwhile, HRD Ministry is trending on Twitter with students anxiously waiting for the decision on final exams to be announced. Many are writing to UGC and the Ministry regarding the same.
The Kuhad panel is led by the VC of Central University of Haryana RC Kuhad. The panel has been giving recommendations regarding the academic year amid the pandemic. It is also set to make new recommendations about final year examination in universities by keeping the changing Covid 19 situation in mind.

The University Grants Commission is expected to take a final call on examinations of final year students only after it receives a report from the Kuhad panel, headed by the Central University of Haryana, which had earlier also given its recommendations managing the academic amid the pandemic.
Amid the coronavirus pandemic, the UGC had decided to issue fresh guidelines regarding final year examinations in universities. It was reported that the guidelines would be issued on July 1, but there wasn't any update. Now speculations are high that the UGC can issue fresh guidelines anytime today. There is no official notification about the same.
Regarding the cancellation of final year examinations, the HRD minister tweeted on 24th June, "I have advised the UGC to revisit the guidelines issued earlier for intermediate and Terminal Semester examinations and academic calendar. The foundation for revisited guidelines shall be health and safety students, teachers and staff."

In UP, the committee under Professor N Taneja has submitted its report to the administration, in which the demand to cancel the pending exams has been raised. The Chief Minister is likely to take a decision on this report by today itself. As per sources,CM Yogi Adityanath may make the announcement today.

The CBSE came up with a new scheme for marking according to which those students who have appeared in more than three exams will be marked on the basis of an average of the best of three subjects. While those who appeared in three papers will be marked on the best of two. Similarly, those students who appeared in less than 3 papers will be marked based on practical and internal assessment.
The revised guidelines of the University Grants Commission for university exams were not released on Wednesday, July 1, 2020. Lakhs of students are awaiting UC’s decision in this regard, as a state of confusion remains. HC Slams DU for Withholding Information on OBE Postponement

The Delhi High Court on Wednesday, 1 July, slammed Delhi University for "withholding material information" regarding the postponement of the online open-book examination from the court, adding that contempt proceedings should be brought against the university for misleading the court.

Amid opposition from teachers and students, the university on Saturday, 27 June, postponed the exam for 10 days, stating the prevailing COVID-19 pandemic as the reason.
While lakhs of students await the new guidelines by UGC for the final year exams, in the latest update the official website of UGC is currently not working.
UGC has earlier issued the guidelines in the month of May

The Commission had released an initial set of guidelines in the month of May in which it had asked universities and colleges to conduct examinations only for the final year or final semester students and to promote the remaining students based on past performance.

DU open book exams postponed

The open book examinations (OBE) for the final year students of the graduation and post-graduation courses have been postponed in view of the pandemic. The examinations will now begin from July 10, 2020, and the mock tests will begin from July 04, 2020.

The new date-sheet, according to the University’s notification, will be available on July 03, 2020.

The UGC had in April formed two committees to deliberate on issues arising due to the lockdown to avoid academic loss and take appropriate measures for the future of students. One of the committees, led by Haryana University Vice-Chancellor R C Kuhad, was tasked with looking into ways of conducting exams in universities amid the lockdown and work on an alternate academic calendar. The second committee, formed to suggest measures to improve online education, was led by Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) Vice-Chancellor Nageshwar Rao. The earlier guidelines stated that exams should be conducted in July were issued by the HRD Ministry on April 29 based on the recommendations of the committee.
