State Government Working Towards A Unique ‘State Education Policy’: Tamil Nadu CM Stalin

Addressing the 165th convocation of the University of Madras, Tamil Nadu chief minister M.K Stalin has said that the Tamil Nadu government is keen and working towards a unique ‘State Education Policy.’ The unique state education policy will be in accordance with the state's history, future goals, economic development and professional thinking," he said. Notably, the University of Madras held its 165th Convocation today. Over 1 lakh students received their degrees today. The President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu was the Chief Guest at the event.
Addressing the convocation, the honorable President congratulated all the medal winners and students who graduated today. Underlining the fact that in over 1,85,000 currently enrolled under various departments and colleges under the University of Madras, over 50 percent of the students are girls, she further said: “The University of Madras is a shining example of gender equality. By investing in the education of girls, we are investing in the progress of our nation. Educated women can make greater contributions in the Page 2 of 5 economy, provide leadership in various sectors, and make a positive impact on the society.”
In her speech, she further underlined the University of Madras as one of the oldest modern universities in the country, and its essential role in the dissemination of knowledge and a catalyst of social change. She also underlined the varsity’s contribution to academic excellence through its high academic standards and rich history and glorious legacy. She further highlighted that six former presidents of the country have been students of the university.
“The University of Madras has promoted a culture of research and academic rigor. This has enabled the development of skilled human resources which have been driving various industries and sectors. The University of Madras should be at the forefront of finding learning-based solutions to the problems being faced by the nation and the world at large,” she further said in her speech.
Tamil Nadu governor RN Ravi, who was also present at the convocation ceremony, also addressed the event. Speaking at the event, Tamil Nadu governor said, "You are fortunate to be graduating at a time when our country, India, is experiencing comprehensive transformation. Today, unlike a few years ago, India is not looked upon as a poor developing country at the margin of international affairs. Today, the world looks at our country with expectations. Expectation to find solutions to the problems of the world and to provide leadership in several areas of global concern. Today, our country is the fastest-growing economy in the world..."
