'Space And Beyond': All Set For IIT Bombay Techfest From December 16-18, After A 2-Year Covid Break

After a 2-year Covid Break, the IIT Bombay Techfest is back in 2022 with its 26th Edition. With an emphasis on Space Innovation, the Techfest 2022 brings in a space pavillion for the first time.

After a pandemic-induced gap of two years, the IIT Bombay TechFest 2022 is back with its 26th edition. Scheduled to be held from December 16, to December 18, 2022, the TechFest 2022 is estimated to be attended by over 1,75,000 students, professors, scholars, and eminent personalities from over 2500 institutions.

Acclaimed for showcasing groundbreaking innovations in the field of science and technology, the IIT Bombay Techfest takes a bold stride into space exploration for 2022 with its Space Line-up.

Spanning across the lengths of ISRO, and NASA, the ambitious Space Line-up aims at providing a closer insight into the modern trends and innovations in the field of space and defence technology. Courtesy of the Line-up’s exclusive pavilions with key space and defense equipment like satellites and missiles on display, coupled with keynote addresses from eminent scholars in the field.

IIT Bombay TechFest 2022: Key Highlights

ISRO Pavillion: As one of the major attractions of the Space Line-up, the ISRO Pavilion would serve as an exhibition centre dedicated to ISRO at the TechFest 2022. The pavilion intends to showcase ISRO’s advancing space programmes and enormous growth over the years with Rovers, satellites, Rockets, Sensors, and Engines on display. The pavilion will feature PSLV and GSLV Models, Space Suits, Ion Thrusters, Semi-Cryogenic Pre-Burners, and Igniters, alongside LVM3, ps4, and CE-20 engines.

BrahMos Missiles - Also on display at the TechFest 2022 would be the stealthy and lethal yet lightweight, BrahMos Supersonic Missile. This 2-stage missile is brought alive by a solid propellant engine as its first stage, that detaches itself after pushing it to supersonic speeds.

Spacehopper: Low-Gravity Space Exploration - Designed to explore low-gravity environments like Asteroids, the Scapehopper would allow the TechFest attendees with a firsthand experience of space exploration rovers. Unlike conventional rovers with wheels, the Spacehopper features a jumping movement and stabilizes its altitude with the controlled movement of its legs. The core functionalities of the Spacehopper prototype have already been tested on Earth, and research on an advanced version of the same is currently underway.
