School Reopening: There is a steady decline in the cases of the Covid-19 infection. In such a situation, many states have started relaxing the lockdown restrictions. Under this, many states across the country have started reopening classes for school students. Let us know in which states schools have opened or are about to be opened.

Odisha- The state government has decided to reopen schools for classes 10 and 12 from July 26, although it has not been made mandatory for students to attend online classes. During this, online teaching-learning will continue for the students. Satyabrata Sahu, Principal Secretary, School and Mass Education, Odisha, said, “We have been able to reach only 40% of the total students through online teaching, while 60% students are left behind. Due to the Covid-19 restrictions, students have lost 150 regular teaching days of their academic year. Therefore, from July 26, both private and government schools are being re-opened for the students of class 10th and 12th."  The classes will be conducted from 10 am to 1.30 pm. There will be no provision of half leave during this period.

Maharashtra- The government has reopened schools for classes 8 to 12 from July 15. However, schools have been opened in only those areas where not a single case of Covid-19 has been reported for the last one month. Significantly, Nashik has also announced the reopening of 335 schools in coronavirus-free villages.

Bihar- Schools have reopened in the state with 50% attendance for class 10 and 12 students from July 12. Colleges and universities have also been reopened here.

Haryana- Schools in Haryana have reopened for classes 9 to 12 from July 16. From July 23, physical classes will also start for students of classes 6 to 8. However, students wishing to attend the schools will have to bring a permission letter from their parents. Apart from this, online classes will also continue for these students.

Gujarat- The state has reopened on-site classes for class 12 with a 50% student capacity from July 15. However, physical classes for students of classes 1 to 9 have been postponed indefinitely in the state.

Telangana- Physical classes were supposed to start from July 1 but the decision was later rescinded after experts warned of a third wave of Covid-19. Thus, online classes have been resumed for all school students.

Madhya Pradesh- Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had earlier said that the schools of classes 11 and 12 would reopen with 50% capacity, from July 26.  Junior classes will be allowed to reopen gradually depending on the Covid-19 pandemic situation.  He had said that initially schools will be opened 4 days a week and then eventually 6 days a week.

Andhra Pradesh-The state government has started online classes from July 12 and physical classes will be resumed here from August 16.

Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, and Karnataka have not made any announcement regarding the reopening of schools.
