School Closed News Updates: Due to extreme weather conditions and persistent rainfall causing disruptions in daily life, several states across the country have been compelled to declare impromptu school holidays. In particular, all schools in Delhi and the National Capital Region have been closed today due to heavy rainfall. Over the weekend, between Saturday and Sunday, Delhi experienced a staggering 261mm of rain, prompting the closure of educational institutions in the area. The decision to close schools aims to ensure the safety and well-being of students and staff members in light of the challenging weather conditions.

List of states/cities that have ordered school closure due to heavy rain:

Delhi NCR

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that a notice has been sent to all heads of schools regarding the closure of schools in Delhi.

“In view of the torrential rains since Friday and the Orange Alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), it is directed that all government and private schools shall remain closed for students on July 10 (Monday). Students must be informed, well in advance, about the holiday so that they do not venture out,” a circular from the Directorate of Education (DoE) said.

The Gurugram administration has also announced the closure of schools in response to the torrential rains and the resulting flooded roads in the region.

“All Government and Private Schools (including Play schools etc.) falling in Gurugram district are hereby directed to remain closed tomorrow i.e. on 10th July in the larger public interest and for the safety and security of the students,” District Collector and Chairman of District Disaster Management Authority Nishant Kumar Yadav said in an order.

The District Magistrate of Gautam Buddh Nagar, Manish Kumar Verma, has also taken to the official Twitter handle to announce the closure of schools in the district.

“Keeping in view the heavy rains in the district, on July 10, classes from 1 to 12 in all schools of all the boards of the district will remain closed.”

The authorities have taken proactive measures, including putting the Army on alert and making necessary arrangements to handle any emergencies that may arise from the situation.

Schools in Faridabad, Haryana, will remain closed on July 10, 2023, due to heavy rains and waterlogging.

In response to the adverse weather conditions, the Punjab government has declared holidays for all government, private, and aided schools until January 13. Additionally, the Punjab School Education Board in Mohali has postponed the re-appear examinations for Class 5 and 8, specifically the Environmental education re-peer exam for Class 5 and Science exam for Class 8, until further notice.

Himachal Pradesh

The state has experienced 14 major landslides and 13 flash floods as reported by the emergency operation center. As a precautionary measure, the government has ordered the closure of all state government schools and colleges for two days, specifically today (July 10) and Tuesday (July 11). These steps have been taken to ensure the safety and well-being of the residents in the affected areas and to mitigate any potential risks posed by extreme weather conditions.
