Punjab School With 60 Pairs Of Twins Faces Unique Challenge Of Identifying Their Students
Police DAV School in Jalandhar faces the unique challenge of identifying its students due to the whopping number of twins. With 60 pairs of twins, teachers and students often face confusion.

A school in Punjab's Jalandhar is faced with a unique challenge — identifying their students. Confused? Well so are school authorities. But why is it a challenge for the school to identify its own students?
The unique challenge has come up due to the sheer number of twins studying at the Police DAV School, Jalandhar. A whopping 60 pairs of twins and three sets of triplets study at the school. As a result, teachers and students often get confused while trying to distinguish between the siblings.
ABP Network first told the story of the 'school of twins' in 2023, when the institute had 47 pairs of twins and 2 sets of triplets. Now, in an interaction with BBC, principal Rashmi Vij, said the number of pair of twins has increased to 60. She said the school has 10 pairs of identical twins and the rest are fraternal twins. In 2022, the number of twins was 42 at the school.

One student says, "If I ask something in class, the teacher gets confused and asks 'didn't you just ask the same question?" Another describes how she is scolded if her sister commits a mistake. Yet another boy says that sometimes his brother is praised for his achievements. Principal Vij, in a 2022 interview, said that she was aware that her school had many pairs of twins, but she became aware of the sheer number only that year.
Vij says that parents insist on sending their children to the same class and school together to build a stronger sibling bond. But she disagrees. "If they stay together 24×7 [at home as well as school], they won't be able to socialise."
But why are there so many identical twins in a relatively smaller area?
The question has foxed many. "It was a surprise for us indeed... Jalandhar is known to have a lot of hospitals and IVF centres. So that is a possibility, but I can't say for sure," Vij says in the interaction with BBC.
