Professor GS Bajpai Takes Charge As The New Vice-Chancellor Of NLU Delhi

Professor GS Bajpai took charge as the new NLU Delhi VC today, February 28, 2023. He succeeds Professor Srikrishna Deva Rao.

Professor GS Bajpai has been appointed as the new vice-chancellor of the National Law University, Delhi. He assumed office as the new NLU-Delhi VC on February 28, 2023. Professor Bajpai succeeds Professor Srikrishna Deva Rao, who held the post since September 2020. 

Before taking charge as the new VC of NLU - Delhi, Professor Bajpai has served as the registrar, and the Chairperson of the Centre for Criminology & Victimology at NLU Delhi. He was also the former VC of Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Punjab. 

Professor Bajpai’s career spans over more than thirty years where he has extensively worked as an administrator and researcher. He has authored 20 books and is also the editor of two international journals - The Journal of Victimology and Victim Justice and Indian Journal of Criminology. He has also played his part as a principal investigator in creating around 700 e-test and videos in various areas of legal education. Moreover, he has been associated with and a major contributor in several central and state government projects. 

In terms of academics, Professor Bajpai holds a Masters in criminology and criminal justice, doctorate in victimology and a post-doctorate in criminal justice from Leicester University. He has also been a Commonwealth Fellow at the department of criminology at the university.

An avid researcher in legal studies, Professor Bajpai is also a frequent opinionator in leading dailies and magazines. Before his stint at the NLU Delhi, he has also been actively associated at various positions at the National Law Institute University, Bhopal, the Indian Institute of Public Administration, the Bureau of Police Research & Development, the Punjab Police Academy, Punjab, and the Department of Criminology & Forensic Science.

Professor Bajpai, has also been the Member Secretary on the Committee for Reforms in Criminal Laws appointed by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt. of India. Welcoming Professor Bajpai as its new VC, the NLU Delhi in a press release said, “The University is certain to reach new academic heights and achieve excellence, under his leadership."
