PM Modi Underlines Need For Incorporating Indian Values In Education System

PM Modi was speaking at the event organised to commemorate the 200th birth anniversary of Swami Dayanand Saraswati at his birth place Tankara in Gujarat’s Morbi district.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said that an education system based upon india values is the need of the hour, news agency PTI reported. The remarks from the prime minister came during his address to an event organised to mark the 200th birth anniversary of Arya Samaj founder Swami Dayanand Saraswati at his birth place Tankara in the Morbi district of Gujarat. "Swami Dayanand Saraswati at that time showed us how our orthodoxy and social evils had harmed us," PM Modi was reported as saying in his address. While speaking, he further underlined that the British rulers showcased Indian society due to the orthodoxy and social evils of the Hindu society.

He further underscored how Swami Dayanand Saraswati actively advocated and promoted equality for women in the society. "An education system based on Indian values is the need of the hour. Arya Samaj schools have been a centre for this. The country is now expanding it through the National Education Policy. It is our responsibility to connect the society with these efforts," he added. He further added that he feels honoured to be born in Gujarat, the place where Swami Dayananad Sarawati was born.

“It is my honour that I was born in Gujarat the birthplace of Swami Dayanand Saraswati. The country is celebrating the 200th birth anniversary of Swami Dayanand Saraswati today. Today, I wanted to be present in the Tankara the birthplace of Swami Dayanand Saraswati, but due to some reasons this was not possible, however, I am among you all from my heart and mind,” PM Modi said.

In his address, PM Modi further underlined that the country is making progressive efforts towards the uplifting of women through policies like the Women’s Reservation Bill. “Swami Dayanand Saraswati during his time talked about the role and importance of women. Through new policies, the women of this country are progressing. Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam was passed in the Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha and ensured women’s reservation. Connecting people of the country with these efforts will be a true tribute to Maharishi today,” he said.

Hailing the functioning of 2500 schools and 400 Gurukuls under the Arya Samaj, he further called for the Arya Samaj to lead nation building with new vigour in the 21st century. DAV institutions are a living memory of Swami ji, and we will constantly strengthen them,” he said.
