PIB Debunks Fake Lockdown Claims On Social Media Amid Resurgent COVID Wave
The Press Information Bureau has debunked fake claims of lockdowns in the country amidst a fresh COVID wave. The Bureau has asked students to refrain from sharing unverified facts.
The Press Information Bureau has debunked claims of closure of schools and colleges in the wake of resurging COVID-19 wave in India. The bureau was quoted terming these claims doing rounds on the internet as “bogus.”
The onslaught of fresh COVID cases in India in the past few days has fueled several fake claims on social media around the return of fresh series of lockdowns in the country, and closing down of schools and colleges. Quashing the fake claims, the PIB has also cautioned students not to share unverified facts on social media pertaining to COVID-19.

Although the COVID-19 wave has been creeping back in the last few days, any possible situation of curbs, lockdowns, and shutting down of schools, colleges, markets, etc., will be announced by the central and state governments. As of now, all schools, colleges,and universities across the country are operating with their regular schedule. In the meantime, people are advised to practice COVID protocol with appropriate social distancing, wearing of masks, optimal hygiene, etc.
“There won't be a lockdown situation in the country since 95% of the people here are vaccinated. The immunity system of Indians is stronger than that of the Chinese...India needs to go back to covid basics - testing, treating, tracing,” Dr Anil Goyal of the Indian Medical Association was quoted saying by ANI.
In the wake of rising COVID cases in the country and abroad, Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a meeting to review the public health response to COVID-19. In the meeting, he underlined ramping up testing, genome sequencing and to ensure operational readiness of covid infrastructure.
