Overcoming Challenges Posed By Manipur Violence, Over 3,300 Candidates Appear For UPSC Prelims Exam In Imphal

Amidst the violence-hit everyday life in Manipur, over 3,300 candidates appeared for the UPSC Prelims Examinations at 12 designated exam centres in Imphal.

Under the reflections of the ongoing Manipur Violence and the serious challenges posed by the same, more than 3,300 candidates appeared for the UPSC Prelims Examination 2023 in the capital city Imphal. The UPSC Prelims Exam was conducted at 12 designated centres in the city today, May 29, 2023, news agency PTI reported an official as saying. By far, no uninvited instance has been reported from any part of the city.

A total of 4,051 candidates registered for the UPSC Prelims Examination, conducted today at the designated Sub-Centres in Imphal. However, owing to the chaos and threat posed by the ongoing violence, a total of 700 candidates opted to take the examination at centres outside the state, an official from the Manipur Public Service Commission was reported as saying.

"In view of the Manipur violence that began on May 3, the Union Public Service Commission had given options to civil service aspirants from the state to appear for the preliminary tests at centres in Aizawl, Kohima, Shillong, Kolkata and Delhi. Documents such as admit card would serve as curfew pass on exam day," the official was quoted as saying by PTI.

In the wake of ongoing clashes between the majority Meitei community and the Kukis, security setup has been beefed up in the northeastern state. G Leivon, a tribal candidate appearing for the exam from Bishnupur district, said, "I didn't face any problem coming to Imphal to appear for the exam. In the greater Imphal area, the situation is normal. We hope that there would be no problem during and after the tests.”

“Our preparations were affected to some extent in the last 25 days due to the suspension of the internet as our tutors and instructors could not share study notes with us. However, we have come here to appear for the exam without any disturbance,” TH Nikita, another student said.
