NMC Places New Regulations for MBBS Admission In Public Domain For Comments, Check Details Here

National Medical Commission (NMC) had put up the new regulation for MBBS Admission on a public domain for comments.

New Delhi: The National Medical Commission (NMC) in accordance with the National Commission Act, 2019 has created a new set of regulations for MBBS admissions. These have been put up in a public domain for comments. Stakeholders can look at the regulations on their official website – nmc.org.in and submit comments by 5 PM, October 19th 2020. National Medical Commission was established in 25th September 2020 and replaced the Medical Council of India, in one of its first move, the commission has drafted extensive regulations for medical colleges concerning admissions and infrastructure. The new regulation will be applicable to colleges that will be established from 2021-22. Here are some of the key points from the regulations:
  •  If the medical colleges are housed in more than one plot of land, they will be required be within 10 kms or within 40 mins of travel time which ever is the quickest. That means the distance between hostels and the main campus shouldn’t be more than 10 kms or shouldn’t take longer than 40 mins to travel.
  • Government District hospital considered for use as the teaching hospital provided that the main District hospital has at least 300 beds or in Hilly and North-East states has 250 bed.
  • Air-conditioned central library with good lighting and adequate space for stocking the books and journals (1000 sq.M for annual intake up to 150 MBBS students and 1500 sq.M for annual intakes of 200 and 250 MBBS students) is required.
  • A minimum of 4 lecture theatres is a requirement, preferably air conditioned.
  •  Skills laboratory should have at least 600 sq.M with an intake of at least 150 MBBS students annually and 800 sq.M for intakes of 200 and 250 MBBS students annually.
  • The college should have a robust institutional policy on biomedical waste management of human origin, with a well-defined arrangement for segregation and discarding of biomedical waste.
  • An interesting addition is a Child Care Center, where infants and children of staff are taken care of.
