NET, SET, SLET Mandatory For Direct Recruitment Of Assistant Professors In Universities, Colleges: UGC

NET, SET and SLET will serve as the minimum criteria for direct recruitment to the post of assistant professor.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has made an announcement regarding the minimum qualifications for the appointment of teachers and academic staff in universities and colleges. According to the revised regulations, the National Eligibility Test (NET), State Eligibility Test (SET), and State Level Eligibility Test (SLET) will serve as the minimum criteria for direct recruitment to the post of assistant professor.

The new regulations have come into effect from July 1, 2023. This means that individuals aspiring to be appointed as assistant professors in universities and colleges will need to qualify for the NET, SET, or SLET examinations as per the guidelines set by the UGC. These eligibility tests are designed to assess the candidates' knowledge and competency in their respective fields.

By implementing these revised regulations, the UGC aims to maintain high standards of teaching and ensure that candidates possess the necessary qualifications for teaching positions.

"NET/SET/SLET shall be the minimum criteria for the direct recruitment to the post of Assistant Professor for all Higher Education Institutions," reads the UGC notice.

The recent amendment to the UGC sub-regulation signifies an effort to strengthen and uphold the standards of education in higher education institutions. By requiring candidates to clear the necessary eligibility tests for the role of assistant professor, the amendment aims to ensure that only deserving individuals are appointed to these positions.
