NEET UG 2024 Results Controversy: Here's Everything You Need To Know

The high-level committee formed to review the issue will be submitting a report within a week based on which a decision will be made, NTA's Director General Subodh Kumar Singh said.

NEET UG Result 2024: Amidst the controversy surrounding the NEET UG 2024 results, which included cheating, paper leaks, and irregularities, the NTA has issued a clarification on the raised concerns. Addressing these questions, the NTA's Director General Subodh Kumar Singh clarified in the press conference that the exam was conducted with transparency and refuted all claims of paper leaks, stressing that the integrity of the medical examination was not compromised anywhere in the country.

Highlighting the handling of the issue, Singh stated, "We established a committee to address the concerns of the 24 lakh candidates and the 1600 students affected by the incorrect distribution of question papers. According to our instructions, students are allotted three hours and 20 minutes for the exam. However, in some centers, students couldn't utilize sufficient time. These candidates approached the High Court seeking compensation for the lost time. In our defense, we informed the courts about the formation of a grievance redressal committee and our ongoing investigation into the matter."

NEET UG 2024 Controversy: Here's Everything You Need To Know

Inflated Cutoff And Compensatory Marks

Concerns were raised about inflated cutoffs, especially since some students scored very high marks, like 718 and 719 out of 720 marks, despite the marking scheme's limits. The NTA explained that compensatory marks were given to students who lost time during the exam.

Additionally, errors in textbooks led to increased marks for some students, which added to the number of high scorers. In response to these issues, the NTA addressed the concerns about the exam's conduct and irregularities.

Several NEET UG 2024 students filed complaints with the High Courts of Punjab and Haryana, Delhi, and Chhattisgarh about losing exam time at some centres on May 5, 2024. The NTA formed a Grievance Redressal Committee with exam and academic experts to handle these issues. There have been allegations of inconsistencies in the marking scheme, with some students doubting the fairness and accuracy of the grading process.

Increased Toppers In NEET UG 2024

NTA clarified that the NEET UG 2024 question paper was based on a new NCERT textbook, but some students used old NCERT textbooks to prepare. Because of this, the NTA gave five extra marks to all students who chose one of the two answers for certain questions. This adjustment raised the scores of 44 students, leading to more top scorers in the medical entrance exam.

Students From Same Exam Centre Scored 720 Marks

Students raised concerns regarding the NEET UG 2024 exam results, noting issues with an unusually high number of 67 students achieving a perfect score of 720 out of 720 marks. Adding to their suspicions, six of these top scorers hailed from the same exam center in Haryana.

Revised Marks Due To Lost Of Time

National Testing Agency said that they checked how much time students lost during the exam. Those students were then given extra marks based on how well they answered questions and the time they lost. This was done using a formula set by the Supreme Court in a decision made in June 2018. As a result, the marks of these students were adjusted, ranging from -20 to 720.

Grace Marks Distribution

According to the Ministry, out of 24 lakh students, 1,563 students were awarded grace marks. Among them, 790 students were able to pass the exam because of these marks, while the rest either got negative marks or didn't pass. This breakdown suggests that the allocation of grace marks didn't have a major impact on the overall NEET UG 2024 result.

Education Ministry Sets Up 4 Member Panel To Review Grace Marks

The Education Ministry has formed a panel of four members to review the grace marks awarded to over 1,500 students. The four-member panel headed by a former UPSC chairman will submit its recommendations within a week and the results of these students might be revised, NTA Director General Subodh Kumar Singh said at a press conference.
