Mizoram: Schools In Aizawl, Kolasib Closed For Third Day Due To Heavy Rain

In Aizawl and Kolasib, schools remain closed for the third day due to heavy rain and landslides.

Aizawl: Schools in the Aizawl and Kolasib districts of Mizoram remained closed for the third consecutive day on Thursday due to ongoing heavy rainfall, as reported by news agency PTI. The closures, which began on Tuesday, were prompted by torrential rains since Monday that triggered landslides and caused significant disruptions.

District administrations issued public notices stating that schools would remain closed on Thursday to ensure the safety and well-being of students. The Aizawl district administration highlighted that the recent heavy rainfall has led to mudslides, rockfalls, and other natural hazards affecting key roads and areas within the district.

"The competent authority has decided to suspend school attendance for the safety of students," the notice stated. This decision follows thorough deliberations and data from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and other sources.

On Thursday, Aizawl experienced moderate rainfall, but no casualties have been reported, according to officials.
