Transgender Students To Get Free Education In Public Universities: Public universities in Maharashtra committed to offering tuition-free education to transgender individuals, marking a step towards inclusivity in education, a statement said. Accordingly, such students will get free education in these varsities and allied colleges. During a state-level review meeting at Dr. Homi Bhabha State University, Minister of Higher and Technical Education Chandrakant Patil urged universities to provide tuition-free education to transgender individuals. Vice-chancellors unanimously supported this initiative, aiming to promote education within the transgender community and foster inclusive environments in educational institutions. The government plans to issue guidelines through a circular or government resolution shortly to formalize this decision.
"All vice-chancellors unanimously accepted the appeal made by the minister to provide free education to the students of the transgender community,” a statement said. The meeting attended by senior officials of the Higher and Technical Education Department also reviewed the progress under the New Education Policy (NEP).
