Madrasa Teacher In Gujarat Held For Sodomising 10 Minor Students

The police have also arrested the trustee of the madrasa for allegedly not taking any action against the teacher, despite complaints from students.

A 25-year-old  madrasa teacher in Gujarat’s Junagadh district has been held for allegedly sodomising at least 10 of his students as per the police. Along with the teacher, the police have also arrested a 55-year-old trustee of the madrasa, for allegedly not taking any actions against the teacher, even after complaints by students, as per the statement from Junagadh district police.

The accused teacher was arrested from his hideabout in Surat, while the trustee of the madrasa, who was on the run, was nabbed from Junagadh on Sunday, the statement added. Following a complaint from  a 17-year-old boy, the Mangrol police registered an FIR against the two accused on Sunday, under sections 377 (unnatural intercourse), 323 (assault), 506-2 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC, and relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

The incident came to light after a boy who studies at the residential school located in Mangrol-Veraval bypass, reached out to his mother using the phone of an another maulana, and complained about the accused teacher’s sexual acts with students, the police statement said. The woman then approached the police and informed them about the teacher’s alleged involvement in sexual assault and sodomising of students residing in the school, the statement added.

On reaching the school premises on October 21, the police took some students of the school in confidence with the help of some muslim leaders. The students came forward alleging that the teacher ‘sodomised’ students in the schools, and also threatened to kill them if they complained or informed their parents about it.

On further investigation, the police also uncovered that the students also approached the trustee of the madrasa to help save themselves from the teacher, but he did not take any action against the teacher. Instead, when the trustee came to know about the complaint against the teacher, he also helped the accused teacher flee from the place, as per the police. Junagadh Superintendent of Police Harshad Mehta visited the madrasa as part of the investigation and assured parents of the students that the police will conduct an impartial probe into the matter.
