Kerala: Schools Closed In Kannur, Kozhikode, Wayanad After IMD's Orange Alert

All educational institutions in the districts of Kannur, Kozhikode, and Wayanad will remain closed today due to heavy rain alert.

In response to an orange alert from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), precautionary measures have been implemented in Kerala. All educational institutions in the districts of Kannur, Kozhikode, and Wayanad will remain closed today. The IMD has issued an orange alert for these areas, indicating the likelihood of heavy to very heavy rainfall. Additionally, a yellow alert has been issued for Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Palakkad, Thrissur, and Malappuram districts. The situation has been exacerbated by intense downpours that struck Kerala and Lakshadweep on July 8. Despite this situation, the Kannur University Public Service Commission (PSC) exams are still scheduled to take place as planned, as reported by ANI.

On July 8, several parts of Kerala and Lakshadweep experienced heavy to very heavy rainfall. Similarly, the national capital witnessed heavy rains in various areas on Sunday evening, leading to a flood-like situation in low-lying regions due to the swollen Yamuna river. The Yamuna River in Delhi has once again crossed the danger mark due to increased discharge from the Hathnikund Barrage, raising concerns about the possibility of another spell of floods in the capital. As a result, the administration is making announcements to evacuate the low-lying areas.

Schools Closed In Maharashtra's Raigarh

Maharashtra is currently grappling with heavy rains, leading to waterlogging in various parts of the state. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert specifically for Raigad district. In response to the challenging weather conditions, the Raigad district collector has taken precautionary measures by declaring a holiday today for all schools and colleges within the district. The decision comes in light of the ongoing heavy rains and the IMD's orange alert for Raigad.
