UPPSC Agrees to Students' Demand for Single-Shift PCS Pre Exam; Forms Committee For RO-ARO

UPPSC has agreed to conduct the PCS Preliminary Exam in a single day after four days of student protests. A decision on the RO-ARO exam will follow a committee report.

The Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) has conceded to the demands of protesting students, agreeing to conduct the PCS Preliminary Exam in a single shift. Students had been protesting for four days, and on Thursday, escalating tensions prompted the commission to make this decision. In a high-level meeting attended by officials including the District Magistrate and Commissioner, the commission finally sided with the students.

The PCS Preliminary Exam, originally scheduled for December 7 and 8, has been postponed, and a new date will be announced shortly. An official notification confirming the updated single-day schedule for the PCS exam is expected soon, while a decision regarding the RO-ARO exam will follow a committee report.

"Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath took cognizance of the demand of students in Prayagraj and asked the Commission to take necessary decisions by communicating and coordinating with the students regarding the PCS Preliminary Examination 2024 in one day," said CMO.

"A committee has been formed by the Commission for RO/ARO (Pre.) Examination-2023. The committee will consider all aspects and submit its detailed report soon," the CMO added.

Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Akhilesh Yadav criticised the state government over the ongoing student protests, calling it a "Yogi vs. competitive students" situation. He questioned whether the government would resort to using bulldozers against student accommodations. "The students’ uprising will signal the downfall of the BJP. They wield batons instead of providing jobs," Yadav wrote on X.

Yadav went on to accuse the BJP of prioritizing communal agendas over critical issues like employment. "BJP’s strategy keeps people struggling for basic needs, allowing them to continue their corrupt practices under the guise of communal politics," he remarked. He also highlighted that numerous job vacancies remain unfilled, and exams have been repeatedly delayed, further intensifying youth frustration and discontent.
