63% Of CSE (Mains) Recommendations From 2017 To 2021 Had Engineering Degrees: Centre

The government revealed that from 2017 to 2021, 63% of CSE (Mains) recommendations were individuals with engineering degrees.

Over 63 percent of the total candidates recommended by the Union Public Service Commission for the Civil Services Examination (Mains) during 2017-21 had Engineering degrees, Rajya Sabha was informed.

Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh presented data of candidates recommended in CSE (Mains) which showed that out of 4,371 aspirants who appeared during the period, 2,783 were from the engineering stream.

According to the data provided by the minister in response to a query, during the period of 2017-2021, there were 1,033 candidates with humanities backgrounds, 315 from a science background, and 240 who were medical graduates.

Among candidates with higher degrees, those from humanities backgrounds excelled, with 597 postgraduates in humanities and 243 postgraduates in engineering successfully clearing the examination.

The information unveiled that 3,265 male candidates (74.6%) and 1,106 female candidates (around 25.4%) successfully passed the examination during this period.

Candidates recommended by the UPSC displayed diversity in their language choices, opting for Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Tamil, Telugu, Urdu, English, Dogri, and Maithili for their papers.

In terms of optional subjects during the Mains examination, political science and international relations, sociology, anthropology, and geography were the favored choices among candidates.

UPSC Mains Result 2023 Declared

The UPSC Mains Result 2023 has been officially announced. The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has released the UPSC Civil Services Mains Result 2023 on the official website at upsc.gov.in. Candidates can access their results on the website. The marks sheets of all the candidates will be uploaded on the Commission’s Website within 15 days from the date of publication of the final result [after conducting Personality Tests (Interview)] and will remain available on the Website for 30 days.
