ISRO Recruitment: Two Men From Haryana Arrested For Cheating In Exam

The national-level recruitment test was held only in Kerala at 10 exam centres.

Thiruvananthapuram: Two men from Haryana have been arrested from here for allegedly engaging in cheating during a test organised by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) for the selection of technical personnel for the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC), as reported by news agency PTI. They were arrested separately at two distinct examination centers in this location while attempting to employ unfair methods to answer the examination questions, a senior police officer said.

The two were also impersonating the actual candidates, the officer said.

The arrest was formally recorded late Sunday night, he said.

Besides them, four men from the northern state are currently under arrest in relation to the incident, as stated by the officer. It's worth noting that an investigation is ongoing to determine whether they actually participated in the test or not.

"They are being questioned presently," he said.

A case under Sections 406 (criminal breach of trust), 420 (cheating) and various other provisions of the IPC and the Information Technology Act has been lodged against them, police said.

"The two arrested persons will also be booked for impersonating the actual candidates," the officer said.

Police said that they have informed the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC) that a case has been registered in connection with the incident. The decision to either annul the examination or proceed with it rests with the VSSC.

The involvement of others, including coaching centres, was also being investigated, it added.

The detained individuals were discovered using mobile phone cameras to capture images of the exam questions, subsequently forwarding them to an individual situated elsewhere who provided them with answers through Bluetooth devices concealed in their ears.

The report mentioned that these two individuals were arrested based on a tip received through an anonymous call originating from Haryana.

Notably, the national-level recruitment examination took place exclusively in Kerala, covering 10 examination centers located throughout the state.
