'Why Is There So Much Stress In IIT?' Father Of Student Found Hanging In Hostel

A fourth-year student of IIT- Kharagpur was found hanging in his hostel room on Wednesday.

After the body of a student who allegedly killed himself by suicide was found hanging in his hostel room at IIT Kharagpur, his father questioned the stress level of students at IIT. He said that the deceased student was stressed due to a project. "Why is there so much stress among students at IIT? He was stressed due to a project," the father said. A police investigation was launched after the matter came to light.

The deceased studnet hailed from Telangana. As per the institute, the body of the deceased student who stayed at the Lal Bahadur Shastri (LBS) Hall of Residence was found hanging inside the hostel room. An Indian Express report citing sources from the institute states that the body of the deceased student was found by his hostel mates, who rushed him to a hospital where he was declared brought dead.

While the institute indicates towards the incident as suicide, the police have started investigating the matter. However, the initial assumptions point towards suicide, police sources were reported as saying. The student, K Kiran Chandra hailed from Telangana, and was a fourth-year dual-degree student in the Department of Electrical Engineering at the institute.
