IIMC Admissions 2020: No Entrance Exams, Selection To Be Based On Marks And Online Interview

The Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) will not be conducting any entrance exams this year. Students will be selected based on marks obtained in qualifying exams and an online interview.

New Delhi: The Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) has decided to not conduct the entrance exams for its diploma courses for the academic year 2020-2021. According to a notification by the institute, due to rising coronavirus cases and transport restrictions, the exams will not be held. The notification reads, ‘In view of the worsening situation of COVID-19 in many regions and receipt of enquiries from concerned candidates and parents about the need to travel to centres for appearing in the entrance examination, the institute has, now, decided to go for a marks based selection process, as a special case, this year.’ Instead, the admission will be based on marks obtained in qualifying examinations such as classes 10, 12, and graduation. Students will also have to give an online interview. ALSO READ| New Education Policy 2020: Push For Wider Reach Of Online Education; How It Seeks To Bridge Digital Divide The notification reads, ‘instead of the traditional mode of examination that IIMC has been resorting to in the past, it has been decided to adopt an admission process that for all the courses this year in which more weightage is given to the marks scored by candidates in qualifying examinations.’ IIMC has also clarified that those who have applied after the July 3 notification, need not apply again. However, students will have to send either a written or video statement of purpose via email on why they want to join the course. Things to remember
  • Details on when the classes will begin have yet to be released.
  • In this academic year, the first semester of all PG courses in all centres will be done through online mode.
  • Prospective students are expected to have laptops or computers with a ‘strong internet connection’.
  • The last date to apply 14th August,2020, till 5 pm.
  • Application Fee - Rs 1,000 for General Category, Rs 750 for OBC/SC/ST/Differently-abled/EWS category
  • Short List announcement date is 31st August,2020
  • The deadline to apply for admission to four languages - Urdu, Odia, Malayalam and Marathi has been extended to August 14.
