IIM Mumbai on Thursday celebrated its Foundation Day by announcing a substantial Rs 800 crore investment in a campus enhancement project aimed at modernizing its facilities and integrating cutting-edge technology. This initiative marks a significant milestone as the institute has quickly risen to the 6th position in national rankings just a year after its establishment.

Mr. Shashi Kiran Shetty, Chairman of the Board of Governance at IIM Mumbai and Founder and Chairman of Allcargo Group, inaugurated the new facilities, highlighting the institution’s commitment to promoting innovation and excellence. Mr. Shetty emphasised the institute’s focus on providing an environment conducive to exploring Artificial Intelligence (AI) and technology.

The event was graced by Dr. Satheesh Reddy, President of the Aeronautical Society of India, former Secretary of DDRND, Chairman of DRDO, and Scientific Adviser to the Defence Minister. Dr. Reddy played a pivotal role during the inauguration, laying the foundation stone at the Bhumi Pujan ceremony, which marked the beginning of the new development phase. His presence underscores the institute’s dedication to merging academic pursuits with practical technological advancements.

Mr. Shetty expressed his enthusiasm during the event, stating, “This day will be remembered as a significant landmark in the history of IIM Mumbai, as we embark on this journey to establish ourselves among the world's top business schools. The campus upgrade reflects our ambition to build a 21st-century educational infrastructure that surpasses international standards. With the renowned IIM brand and our strategic location in Mumbai, we are attracting global talents in faculty and students. Our future state-of-the-art facilities, exceptional faculty, and superior pedagogical approaches are set to position IIM Mumbai as a premier institution for fostering outstanding leaders and entrepreneurs.”

The upcoming enhancements include a sprawling net-zero campus with top-tier residential facilities for faculty and students, a vibrant startup ecosystem, Management Development Programs, and a large auditorium. Additionally, the campus will feature an Innovation Center focused on banking, finance, and fintech, an AI research hub, and a modern library that connects students to global resources. A prominent Management Training Center will also be established, offering certification courses and serving as a hub for industry leaders.

Formerly known as NITIE, IIM Mumbai has a rich history in industrial and engineering education. Since its rebranding, the institute has benefited significantly from its transformation, evident from its rapid ascent in national rankings. Located in India’s financial capital, IIM Mumbai is poised to become a landmark development for the city.

Prof. Manoj K Tiwari, Director of IIM Mumbai, outlined the institute’s strategic direction, including new course offerings and several partnerships aimed at fostering global knowledge exchange and community engagement.
