New Delhi: Due to the Coronavirus outbreak, Delhi University has decided to stick to online platforms to conduct their classes and now even the examinations to keep up with the social distancing norms. Delhi University has taken out a new plan to conduct an internal assessment and it is likely that the exam will be Open Book Exam mode. According to the University notification, examinations for all undergraduate and postgraduate students including students registers under the School of Open Learning and Non-Collegiate Women Education Board will begin on July 1st 2020.  The notice also said that ‘University will also adopt an alternate mode of examinations i.e. Open Book Examinations(OBE) for Final Semester/term year/UG and PG students of all programmes and streams along with arrears (ER) of previous semester/term/year.’ The exams will be conducted in three sessions including on Sundays. In the tests, students will be allowed to attempt their exams (including ER exams) as per the date sheet and courses filled in examination form from seating at home or any place as per the guideline. The detailed date sheet will be out by the end of the month. The notification also said, “For final and Intermediate semester/Term/Year students of all professional and technical programs, all such practical and viva voce as part of the requirements of the completion of degrees for final semester/Term/Year students should be conducted through Skype or other meeting apps.” The mode of internal assessment has also changed so students will have to submit their paper via email. “Instead of the three existing components of Internal Assessment, viz., Class Tests, Tutorial Test, and Attendance, only one component i.e. internal assignments will be carried out for the current semester. Internal assessment of the students should also be carried out using IT tools. The teacher should give the assignment to the students in the prescribed format via e-mail. The student should submit the solved assignment to the teacher via e-mail at a defined time.” Practical exam too will be conducted in a similar manner, students will be given an assignment based on the experiments they have done before the lockdown. “the teacher should give the assignment based on Experiments already performed through email to the students. The student should submit the solved assignment to the teacher via email in a stipulated time period.” All the information has been stated clearly on the university website www.du.ac.in which students can understand further information. The Coronavirus outbreak is seemingly changing the way of education, traditional classes are probably going to turn into online classes for the next foreseeable future.
