CBSE Board Class 12 Exams: States Who Have Opposed Conducting Of Class 12 Board Exams - Here's Who Said What

CBSE Board Class 12 Exams: As per the reports, various state boards were in favor of conducting Class 12 board examinations. However, some boards suggesting conducting class 12 board examinations only after the vaccination of students and teachers are completed.

CBSE Board Class 12 Exams: A high-level meeting was called on Sunday amidst the rambling debate on whether to or not to conduct the class 12 board examinations for various boards such as CBSE, CISCE, and state board. The meeting chaired by Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh was attended by Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal, education ministers and secretaries of States and Union Territories, chairpersons of various state examination boards, and stakeholders.

As per the reports, various state boards were in favor of conducting Class 12 board examinations. However, some boards suggesting conducting class 12 board examinations only after the vaccination of students and teachers are completed.

Due to a lack of consensus among states over the pending Class 12 board exams, no decision could be taken, and hence, the final call will be taken on May 30, 2021.

Here's a look at what is the stand of various states regarding the Class 12 board examinations:

Delhi: Deputy CM Manish Sisodia recommended conducting the class 12 board examinations only after the students and teachers are vaccinated against the covid-19 infection. "In a meeting with the central government, today demanded that vaccine should be arranged for all the children of class 12 before the examination. The stubbornness of organizing the examination by playing with the safety of the children will prove to be a big mistake and a failure," he tweeted on Sunday.

Tamil Nadu: The state school education minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi said that the state is in favor of conducting the class 12 board examinations only after the conditions are conducive. "Class XII exams are very important in deciding higher studies and careers for students. There is no use in giving them all pass. All states are in favor of conducting the exam. So, we are also in favor of conducting the exam," Poyyamozhi was quoted by TOI in its report.

Karnataka: The state primary and secondary education minister S Suresh Kumar said it’s important to conduct examinations for class 12 students keeping their safety in view. He has long maintained his stance to conduct the examinations only after the conditions are stabilized.

Jharkhand: Chief Minister Hemant Soren said it's not favorable to conduct the class 12 board examination in wake of the covid-19 pandemic. "If the suggestions received from the stakeholders are considered, there is a consensus on the postponement of the examination... People feel that maintaining social distance will not be possible if the exams are conducted and children can get infected..." Soren was quoted by PTI in its report.

Maharashtra:  The School Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad said that the state board is not in favor of conducting the class 12 board examinations in wake of the rising number of covid-19 cases across the state. She further said that the option of a “non-examination route” will be explored keeping in view the safety of the students and teachers. Gaikwad on its official Twitter handle writes, "Keeping in mind the ongoing pandemic situation, the projection that children are vulnerable to new strains of coronavirus, an option of a non-examination route for Class 12 students should be actively examined. Health and mental well-being of children, their families must be our priority. Students and parents have been sharing their concern about appearing for exams amid the pandemic."

Odisha: The state board is in favor of conducting the class 12 examinations only after the conditions are safe.

Punjab: The state Education Minister Vijay Inder Singla recommended conducting the class 12 examinations for three elective subjects while keeping in view the safety and health of students and teachers.
