Calcutta HC Declines To Intervene In Changing Time For WBBSE Class 10 Exam

The court noted that both the state and the board's counsels assured that administrative arrangements to provide logistical support for the examination.

Kolkata: The Calcutta High Court on Thursday announced its decision not to intervene in the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education's alteration of the timing for the class 10 examination set to commence on February 2. The court observed that changing the examination time from 11:45 am to 9:45 am, just a few weeks before the Madhyamik examination, would inconvenience examinees, as reported by PTI.

The court noted that both the state and the board's counsels assured that administrative arrangements to provide logistical support for the examination, which will involve several lakh students, have been completed.

Justice Biswajit Basu said any disturbance to the said situation may cause a serious impact on the examination process. He said for this reason, this court was refraining from interfering with the rescheduling.

The court instructed the board and the state to guarantee that students encounter no obstacles.

It mandated the board to establish a sufficient number of helplines for examinees in all districts. Additionally, if any student encounters difficulty reaching the examination center, the board must take measures to ensure their timely arrival.

The court ordered the board to submit a compliance report by the following Wednesday.

The petitioner, a teacher, urged for the schedule to revert to its original timing, consistent with previous years. They said that the board provided no explanation for altering the examination time and highlighted the adverse impact the timing adjustment would have on examinees.
