'12-13 Hours of Study Per Day': CA Inter AIR-1 Kushagra Roy Shares His Success Mantra

ICAI Result 2024: This year, Kushagra Roy has topped the ICAI Intermediate examinations by scoring 89.67%

ICAI Result 2024: The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) announced the ICAI CA intermediate and final exam results 2024 for the May session on July 11, 2024. This year, Kushagra Roy has topped the Intermediate examinations by scoring 89.67%, and Shivam Mishra has secured the first position in the Final examinations by scoring 83.33%. Kushagra Mishra credits much of his success to his father, Kapil Deo Roy, who has been a pillar of support, after the loss of his mother. Here’s what Kushagra wants to share about his secrets to success and how he managed to excel in the exams.

What were the biggest challenges you faced during preparation?

My father, Kapil Deo Roy, has ensured that my brother or I never faced any challenges and he took care of everything inside and outside our home even after my mother’s passing. However, in terms of studying, my biggest challenge was the subject of Audit. It is a theoretical subject, and memorizing it was the biggest task. However, Physics Wallah’s CA Wallah online classes have helped me get through the tougher parts and understand concepts very clearly.

What motivated you to pursue a career as a CA?

Since Class 11th I knew that I only wanted to pursue Commerce and never even considered Science as an option. My father is an accountant, and it was his dream that I pursue Chartered Accountancy. His faith in me and my aim to fulfill his dream, were my biggest motivations.

Can you share some strategies or study habits that helped you crack the inter exam?

As a CA AIR 1 student, I found that consistency was the cornerstone of my success in the inter-exam. I studied 12-13 hours each day. By setting a daily study schedule and adhering to it without fail, I ensured continuous progress in mastering complex subjects. This disciplined approach minimized last-minute cramming and maximized my understanding and retention of the material. Another important suggestion I have for future aspirants is that classes, either online or offline, are essential for intermediate levels, and I suggest it to everyone. I took online classes from Physics Wallah that helped me secure the top rank. Also, it is very important to stay focused during your preparation. I uninstalled Instagram and Facebook and only kept WhatsApp for communication purposes.

What are your future aspirations?

My primary goal is to successfully clear the CA Final, a crucial milestone towards securing a position in a prestigious multinational company. I am confident that achieving this will unlock exciting job opportunities and pave the way for a promising career. Additionally, my aspirations are deeply personal; while my elder brother is fulfilling our mother's dream of becoming a doctor, I am dedicated to fulfilling my father's dream of becoming a Chartered Accountant. Despite not having cleared it himself yet, my father continues to dream of achieving this goal one day. The next steps in my journey include starting my articleship and undergoing computer training. My aim is for opportunities in one of the Big 4 accounting firms, which I believe will be actively seeking top talent.

What advice would you give to others preparing for the exam?

My only piece of advice for all my peers is to consistently attend all classes and ensure that no backlog accumulates. Staying up-to-date with coursework is crucial for understanding concepts thoroughly and succeeding in your studies. Also, revision especially one or two months before the examination is important. I used to write all the things that the teachers discussed in our classes and then, during self-study, I would highlight the important points. Aspirants should also keep giving mock tests as it increases one’s test-taking speed as well. If one studies diligently, even they can secure their desired result.

What are the next steps in your journey?

My current goal is to successfully clear the CA Final, which I believe will be a significant stepping stone towards securing a position in a prestigious multinational company. The next steps in my journey include starting my articleship and undergoing computer training. My aim is for opportunities in one of the Big 4 accounting firms, which I believe will be actively seeking top talent.
