Bengal Governor C V Ananda Bose Faces Agitation While Entering North Bengal University

West Bengal Governor C V Ananda Bose faced agitations from TMCP students on his visit to the North Bengal University.

West Bengal Governor C V Ananda Bose faced agitation from TMCP (All India Trinamool Student Congress) students while entering the North Bengal University. The agitating students raised allegations of saffronisation of education against the Governor. Students of the West Bengal Trinamool Chhatra Parishad also showed black flags to the governor, and also shouted ‘Go Back’ slogans. The governor was on his visit to the North Bengal University to interact and hold a meeting with the recently appointed vice-chancellors of 13 universities in the state. The Bengal governor is also on a four day trip to districts in North Bengal.

The protesting students at the university alleged the governor of running a parallel administration from the Raj Bhavan. “We are not ready to allow this governor to hold today's meeting as he is not ready to accept an elected government. How can he do this? He is trying to run a parallel administration from the Raj Bhavan. He is also keeping the government in the dark while appointing the VCs.. this cannot go on," a student was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.

Earlier this month, governor C V Ananda Bose appointed new vice-chancellors in the state. However, the appointment of vice-chancellors by the governor has unfolded a political scuffle in the state. West Bengal education minister Bratya Basu has said that the state will not pay the salary and remunerations of VCs appointed by the Governor.

In response to the protests by students on his visit to the North Bengal University in Siliguri today, the West Bengal governor has said that: “"Protests are the essence of democracy. Protests are welcome." On the allegations made by the students around the appointment of new VCs, he further added: “"We had a one-point agenda that universities in Bengal should be the best in the nation."
