Kota Student Suicides: Growing Concern

Notably, this year has witness a spree of suicides among students. In Rajasthan’s Kota, hailed as the coaching hub of the country, as many as 23 student suicides have been reported by far this year, the highest figure ever. Earlier last year in 2022, a total of 15 incidents of student suicides were reported from Kota. Famed across the country for its coaching centres and competitive exam preparations, over two lakh students migrate to Kota every year to prepare for competitive exams like NEET and JEE (Joint Entrance Examination).

In light of the growing case of students suicides, the district administration in Kota has underlined various measures and practices to curb suicides. Even the union government and the education ministry has expressed severe concerns on the cases of students suicides. Earlier today, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan emphasized upon collective efforts to keep students stress-free. "No precious lives should be lost, they are our kids. It is our collective responsibility to keep students stress-free," Dharmendra Pradhan said.
