19-Year-Old NEET Aspirant Found Hanging In Kota; 8th Suicide This Year

A 19-year-old student on Wednesday hanged herself in her rented room of a hostel in Rajasthan's Kota.

A 19-year-old NEET aspirant from Uttar Pradesh took his own life on Wednesday night in Rajasthan's Kota. The victim, Soumya, was a resident of Lucknow. She was attending private coaching classes for NEET preparation. This marks the eighth suicide recorded this year and the second incident within two days in the country's renowned 'coaching hub'.

Kamlesh Kumar Sharma, the officer from Jawahar Nagar police station said that the student hailed from Lucknow and had been residing in Kota since last year, preparing for the NEET examination. She was staying at a PG accommodation in the Mahavir Nagar Pratham area.

Sources indicate that the body is awaiting the arrival of family members, who will then arrange for a post-mortem examination. The body has been transferred to the mortuary as investigations into the tragic incident continue.

On March 25, Uruz Khan (20), a NEET aspirant, was found hanging from the ceiling fan of his rented room in Kota. He hailed from Uttar Pradesh's Kannauj.

The father of the NEET aspirant has accused negligence on the part of the PG's owner and management for not installing an "anti-suicide" device on the fan, as reported by PTI.

The body of 20-year-old Mohammad Urooj, a native of Uttar Pradesh’s Kannauj, was handed over to his family on Wednesday morning after conducting a post-mortem, Station House Office (Vigyan Nagar) Satish Chaudhary said.

A case has been registered in the matter on the complaint of Urooj’s father Sabir Khan, he said, adding that further probe is underway to ascertain the reason behind the student’s extreme step.

SHO Chaudhary on Tuesday said that the ceiling fan in Urooj's room lacked an anti-suicide device.

Urooj's father said that his son was good at studies and it was “negligence” of the PG owner and management that the fan in Urooj’s room was not equipped with an anti-suicide device.
