Saket Court Firing: Delhi Police Denies Security Lapse As CM Kejriwal, Congress Raise Questions

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal slammed the law and order situation in the national capital after an incident of firing at Saket court where a woman was shot at earlier in the day. Reacting sharply to the incident, CM Kejriwal said if the person concerned cannot manage the situation, then he should resign.

Taking to Twitter, CM Kejriwal posted a video of the incident and wrote in Hindi, “Mr. Lieutenant Governor, what is happening in our Delhi? The law and order situation in Delhi has completely crumbled. Instead of obstructing the work of others and doing dirty politics on everything, everyone should focus on their own work. And if he does not manage, then he should resign so that someone else can do it. The safety of the people cannot be left on Lord Ram.”

Congress leader Pawan Khera, too, reacted to the incident and said, “There is barely any existence of law and order in Delhi today. People are afraid of stepping out on the roads.”

The woman was with her advocate when a person shot her at the Saket Court complex, police said.

The shooter is said to be a suspended lawyer, identified as Kameshwar Kumar Singh. He fired four rounds and three of them hit the woman. One bullet hit the secretary (munshi) of a lawyer. Police said that both woman and the secretary are out of danger.

“An FIR was registered in December in which the victim of today's incident is accused. The woman had taken money from the person (shooter) on the promise of doubling it, both of them had come to the court related to the matter. Several other cases of fraud are also lodged against the woman. The man was an advocate here for a long time and was in his uniform at the time of the incident,” news agency ANI quoted Chandan Chowdhary, DCP South, Delhi Police, as saying.

“The man fired 4 rounds in which 3 bullets hit the woman and one scribe. Condition of both is stable and both have been discharged from the hospital. There is no lapse in security system of Delhi Police. Though we will strengthen it,” police added.
