Manish Sisodia Alleges Mental Harassment, Court Extends CBI Custody By 2 Days — Key Developments
Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court extended the CBI custody of Manish Sisodia till March 6 and fixed the next date of hearing in the case on March 10.
New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Manish Sisodia alleged mental harassment saying the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) keeps asking him the same questions everyday during the ongoing investigation in the excise policy scam case.
Sisodia, who was arrested over his alleged involvement in the excise policy case, during the court proceedings on Saturday said, “Every day from 8 am they keep asking the same questions. Documents don’t exist. They are making me sit for as long as 9-10 hours. It is not less than mental harassment.”
Here are the top developments of the day:
- Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court extended the CBI custody of Manish Sisodia till March 6 and fixed the next date of hearing in the case on March 10.
- The CBI, seeking further three-day remand, told the court that Sisodia was not cooperating with the probe, ANI reported. Senior Advocate Dayan Krishnan, appearing for Manish Sisodia opposed the application on extension of remand, saying an extension of remand by CBI is not justified.
- Reacting to Manish Sisodia's CBI custody being extended, Delhi minister Saurabh Bharadwaj said, "CBI has nothing to do with evidence and truth. They are only listening to what the Central government is saying. This whole procedure is meant to trouble Manish Sisodia."
- Manish Sisodia, in his bail plea, had said he had joined the probe whenever he was called and said no fruitful purpose will be served by keeping him in custody as all the recoveries have been made.
- His bail application comes after the Supreme Court earlier this week refused to entertain his plea challenging his arrest by CBI.
- Manish Sisodia was arrested by the CBI on Sunday in connection with alleged corruption in the now-withdrawn Delhi liquor policy. As per CBI, the arrest was made after Sisodia didn’t cooperate in the investigation and avoided clarifications sought by them.
- Earlier this week, a special Delhi court sent Sisodia to five-day CBI remand.
- Manish Sisodia, who held 18 portfolios in the Delhi government, including excise and education, resigned on Tuesday, hours after the apex court junked his plea.
