'Invested Heavily In Education, Health And Electricity': Delhi CM Kejriwal On Budget 2023

In the ninth consecutive budget of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, education continued to get the highest allocation of ₹16,575 crore for the financial year 2023-24.

New Delhi: Highlighting the key takeaways of the Delhi government from the budget, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal hailed it as ‘historical’ and said it will give a major push to infrastructure with Rs 21,000 crore being allocated for various projects.

Addressing a press conference after the budget presentation on Wednesday, Kejriwal said the government has invested heavily on education, health and electricity sectors.

In the ninth consecutive budget of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, education continued to get the highest allocation of ₹16,575 crore for the financial year 2023-24.

“We have invested heavily in education, health and electricity sectors; This budget focuses on clean, beautiful, modern Delhi,” Kejriwal said.

In 2014-15, the budget outlay was Rs 30,940 crore, which has now gone up to Rs 78,800 crore, he said.

"This is because Delhi has an honest government. Finally, the Budget was presented today. The Delhi government's Budget for the financial year 2023-24 has something for everyone,” Kejriwal said.

He further said that all anti-corruption measures, faceless services and doorstep delivery of services will continue.

“All anti-corruption measures, faceless services, doorstep delivery of services will continue,” the chief minister said, adding, “We have been providing free education, water, power, healthcare services, but have never incurred losses; free schemes will continue.”

The chief minister also spoke about the various schemes announced to realise the budget's vision of a clean, beautiful and modern city.

Under these schemes, 26 new flyovers will be constructed, along with three double-decker flyovers and 1,400 kilometre of roads under the jurisdiction of public works department will be renovated.

Speaking about the double-decker flyovers, CM Kejriwal said vehicles will ply on the lower deck and metro rail trains on the upper deck.

The Delhi government’s budget was presented on Wednesday, a day after the approval of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
