Devender Yadav Takes Charge As Delhi Congress President After Arvinder Singh Lovely Jumps Ship To BJP

Devender Yadav took charge as Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee President, following the resignation of Arvinder Singh Lovely who joined the BJP on Saturday.

After Arvinder Singh Lovely, Rajkumar Chauhan, Naseeb Singh, Neeraj Basoya, and Amit Malik left the Congress to join the BJP, Devender Yadav on Sunday took charge as Delhi Congress President. He was given charge as the interim president of the party's Delhi unit after Arvinder Singh Lovely resigned from the post.

Devendra Yadav, recently appointed as the interim president of the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC), expressed his gratitude towards the party leadership and underscored the significance of the Congress in the nation's political landscape.

Taking charge as Delhi Congress President, Devender Yadav expressed, "It is an important day for me. I want to thank the central leadership for showing faith in me. I will work hard to fulfill all my responsibilities and you see that I.N.D.I.A bloc will win all 7 seats in Delhi to strengthen Congress party," as reported by ANI.

"I also started my political career as a worker and have seen a lot of struggles and hardships. Today Congress, which is our mother, needs us. Today, the country needs Congress," he affirmed, as quoted by PTI.

On this particular occasion, former Delhi Congress President Ajay Maken, former President Anil Choudhary, former Minister Harun Yusuf, former Minister Yoganand Shastri, former MLA Anil Bhardwaj, Subhash Chopra, and many prominent leaders and a large number of workers were present at the Delhi Pradesh Congress office.

Arvinder Singh Lovely's Resignation As Delhi Congress President

Yadav's appointment follows the resignation of Arvinder Singh Lovely, who stepped down from the post citing differences over the party's alliance with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Delhi. Lovely's departure saw him joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), along with other notable leaders.

In his resignation letter, Lovely highlighted internal challenges within the party, expressing dissatisfaction over the handling of decision-making processes. He criticized the unilateral vetoing of unanimous decisions by senior Delhi unit leaders by the AICC's Delhi in-charge Deepak Babaria.

Reacting to Lovely's move to BJP, Yadav labeled him as an opportunist, reaffirming the Congress's resilience. "The Congress was strong before and will remain strong in the future as well," he asserted.

Devendra Yadav, who previously represented the Badli assembly constituency in Delhi, brings with him a wealth of political experience. Currently serving as the All India Congress Committee's (AICC) Punjab in-charge, Yadav's appointment signals a strategic move by the Congress to rejuvenate its Delhi unit amidst shifting political dynamics.
