As Delhi Schools Reopen, Police File FIR Over Bomb Threats A Day Ago

Delhi police has filed an FIR in connection with the bomb threats received by the schools in the national capital yesterday.

As the Delhi schools reopened today a day after bomb threats stirred panic in the national capital, a First Investigation Report has been filed under various charges including criminal conspiracy, intimidation, and creating enmity between classes.

In the FIR registered by its Special Cell, the Delhi police stated that the intention of the bomb hoax emails which was received by over 100 Delhi schools was aimed at creating mass panic and disturbing public order, news agency PTI reported.

At least 125 bomb threat calls were received from various schools from 5.47 am to 2.13 pm on Wednesday, PTI said in the report, citing an official source who has access to the FIR.

After receiving the calls, PCR vehicles rushed to schools along with the Bomb Detection Squad, district police, Special Cell and Crime Control Room. Several other agencies including the DDMA, NDRF, and Fire CATS were also alerted.

Massive inconvenience was caused due to movement of these units to the schools, the FIR read. Taking cognisance of the threats, the officials evacuated the shools in an elaborate exercise and also carried out anti-sabotage checks across Delhi, PTI wrote citing official source.

"The emails were apparently sent with the conspiratorial intention of creating mass panic and to disturb public," the source told PTI.

The FIR has been registered under IPC sections 505 (2) (statements creating or promoting enmity, hatred or ill-will between classes), 507 (criminal intimidation by an anonymous communication), and 120 (B) (punishment of criminal conspiracy) at Special Cell Police Station in Delhi.

On Wednesday, around 200 schools in Delhi-NCR received an identical bomb threat email, claiming that explosives were planted in the school premises. Although it triggered massive evacuations and searches with parents rushing to pick their children from schools, nothing was found during the searches by the authorities. The threat also turned out to be hoax.

Delhi Police Brush Rumours About Bombs In Schools

After Wednesday's bomb threat, a similar message went viral on Thursday as well, claiming that bombs have been found in some schools in Delhi. However, the Delhi Police immediately took note of these claims, declaring them false.

In a statement issued by Delhi Police, it was said, "Some audio messages are being sent on WhatsApp and other chat groups claiming that suspicious items have been found in some schools. These messages are false and there is no truth to them. We request everyone to please inform others that these messages are false."

Delhi Police in a post on X, stated that it appreciates the cooperation and patience showcased by the school adminitration and parents at during the investigation of bomb-related emails received by the Delhi schools.
