Delhi PWD Demolishes Illegally Built Hanuman Temple, Mazar In Bhajanpura Amid Heavy Security Deployment
Delhi's PWD on Sunday launched a demolition drive to remove an 'illegally' built Hanuman temple and Dargah in the Bhajanpura area. Heavy security deployment continues to maintain law and order.
New Delhi: Heavy police and CRPF deployment have been made in the city's Bhajanpura area on Sunday morning as Public Works Department (PWD) demolished a Hanuman Temple and Mazar here which were built illegally. According to the information, the ongoing demolition action is being taken by the Public Works Department (Delhi PED Anti Encroachment Drive). According to the order of the PWD department, those religious places in Delhi which have been built illegally or those which have been encroached on by religious organisations are being removed.

Speaking on the drive, Joy N Tirkey, DCP Northeast, said, "Demolition drive is underway peacefully at Bhajanpura Chowk. A decision was taken by the Religious Committee of Delhi to remove a Hanuman Temple & a Mazar to further widen the road for Saharanpur Highway. Both structures are removed peacefully."

He said that the decision to remove both structures from Bhajanpura Chowk was taken during a meeting of the Delhi Religious Committee because the road has to be widened as construction of the Saharanpur Highway is underway.

"Everything was done peacefully," Tirkey added.
Sharat Kumar, Seelampur SDM, said, "The decision (to remove the mazar and temple) was approved by the Religious Committee and following the orders of Lieutenant Governor (of Delhi) this demolition drive was carried out. It was done peacefully and there was no problem."
