AAP's 'Maha Rally' In Delhi Today Against Centre's Ordinance, Know Traffic Advisory As Security Beefed Up

Ahead of AAP's 'Maha rally' against Centre's ordinance, security has been beefed up around Ramlila Maidan. Delhi Traffic Police has also issued an advisory for the regulation of vehicular movement.

Security around Delhi's Ramlila Maidan has been beefed up as the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is set to hold a rally on Sunday against the Centre's ordinance on the control of services in the national capital. A senior police officer while talking to news agency PTI said that around 12 fleets of paramilitary forces accompanied by local police will be present at the venue during the rally. He added that surveillance through CCTV will also be conducted. As per an AAP Spokesperson, around one lakh people will attend this rally.

While elaborating on the security measures, the officer said that metal detectors will be installed at the ground's entry gates and those entering the venue will be frisked. He also said that senior officials from the district will also be present there. Fire tenders and ambulances will also be deployed at the venue.

AAP spokesperson Reena Gupta said that the party has carried out extensive campaigns to inform the masses about the ordinance and how it will impact their daily life. Gupta while talking to PTI said, "We have done extensive campaigning, reached out to people and explained them about the ordinance and how it will impact their day-to-day lives."

Below is a visual of the preparations being made for the rally.

AAP's 'Maha Rally': Delhi Traffic Police Advisory

Delhi Traffic Police has been asked to regulate vehicular movement as a large number of people are expected to attend the rally. An advisory has been issued already by the Traffic Police mentioning Maharaja Ranjeet Singh Marg, Mir Dard Chowk, Ajmeri Gate, JLN Marg, Bhavbhuti Marg, Minto Road, Delhi Gate, round about Kamla Market to Hamdard Chowk and roundabout Paharganj Chowk as diversion points.

The advisory said that traffic restrictions/regulation/diversion may be imposed on Ranjeet Singh flyover from Barakhamba Road to Guru Nanak Chowk, from Minto Road to roundabout Kamla Market, Vivekanand Marg, JLN Marg (Delhi Gate to Guru Nank Chowk), Chaman Lal Marg etc from 8 am on Sunday, the advisory said. People have been advised to avoid these roads and stretches and the commuters going to railway stations and ISBT have been asked to leave with sufficient time at hand. Delhiites have been asked to use public transport in order to help decongestion of roads and for the ones who will still use private vehicles, they've been asked to park their cars only at designated parking spaces.

The advisory added that if any casual/unidentified object or person is noticed in suspicious circumstances then their information should be given to the police.

Centre issued an ordinance on May 19 to set up a National Capital Civil Service Authority to bring back executive control over matters related to services in its domain. It was issued close on the heels of a Supreme Court judgment dated May 11 through which the Delhi government was given the executive control over service-related matters, including transfers and postings of Delhi government officers but excluding those related to police, public order, and land.
