Delhi Man Accuses UP Student Of 'Forcing' Him To Convert His Religion, Accused Arrested

A B.Tech student from UP's Barabanki was arrested in Delhi after a Delhi man accused him of forcing him to convert to Islam.

Delhi Police has arrested a man on the charge of forcibly converting religion by brainwashing people through YouTube videos and promising government jobs to them. The accused, identified as Mohammad Kalim (28), pressurised Sandeep Sagar, the caretaker of the night shelter built at Turkman Gate of Chandni Mahal police station area, to convert to Islam. He lured him with money and said that if he changes his religion, he will also get a government job.

As per IANS, State BJP Chief Virendra Sachdeva has said that the Delhi Police on Saturday registered a case wherein one Sandeep Sagar, a caretaker of Delhi government's night shelter in Turkman Gate, has told them that a person Mohd. Kalim had allegedly converted the religion of one Sanjeev Kumar, a resident of the night shelter, and now has changed his name to Abbas.

According to the complainant registered with the police, the accused used to speak wrong things about the Hindu religion and used to talk about boycotting of Hindu religion by showing religious videos on YouTube. Delhi Police registered a case against the accused on June 9 under sections 153A and 295A of the IPC and later arrested him.

The accused is a B.Tech student in computer science and belongs to Barabanki in Uttar Pradesh, reported IANS citing a police official.

Speaking on the case, Sanjay Kumar Sain, DCP Central, said,"...We have recorded the statement & taken cognizance of this case. The accused is a Bachelor of Technology graduate. Suspicious items were found from his mobile ... a complaint was given by three people, FIR has been registered and the accused was arrested...Further investigation is required in this case before reaching a conclusion..."

"After primary enquiry, under Section 153-A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc., and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony), 295-A (Deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) of the Indian Penal Code was registered at the Chandni Mahal police station," the official added, stated the IANS report.

The complaint says that Kalim used to show caretaker Sandeep videos related to Islam religion on YouTube and said that there is nothing special in Hinduism. Through the video, he used to ask him to boycott Hinduism.

Sachdeva slammed the Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi government and accused it of being involved in "anti-Hindu" campaigns.

"Now it is clear from this alleged religious conversion incident in a government-run night shelter that the Kejriwal government stands firmly with "anti-Hindu religious conversion" forces"," he was quoted as saying by IANS.

An official added that Kalim was produced before the court and sent to judicial custody.

In another such incident, the Kavi Nagar Police Station in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad registered a case last week on Tuesday, in which two people were named. The accused were identified as Shahnawaz Khan alias Baddo, a resident of Thane, Maharashtra, and Nanni alias Abdul Rehman, a Maulvi at a mosque in the Sanjay Nagar area, as reported by the news agency ANI. Rehman was arrested and further investigation into the matter is underway. According to DCP City, Ghaziabad Nipun Agarwal, during the investigation, Rehman's role in the conversion of a minor Jain boy and two Hindu boys was found and the police have seized electronic evidence and affidavits related to it.

“On May 30, a case of religious conversion was registered at Kavi Nagar PS, in which two people were named & were identified as Shahnawaz Khan alias Baddo, a resident of Thane, Maharashtra and Nanni alias Abdul Rehman, a Maulvi at a mosque in Sanjay Nagar area.
