'Tughlaq's Order': AAP Responds To L-G's Diktat To Remove 223 DCW Workers, Says Won't Let Panel Shut Down

Calling the order "Tughlaqi order", former DCW chief Swati Maliwal said that she would not let the institution close.

Hours after Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena sacked 223 employees from the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) due to alleged unauthorised appointments, former DCW chief Swati Maliwal on Thursday accused Saxena of "destroying the organisation from its roots". Calling the order "Tughlaqi order", Maliwal said that the institution has been built with "blood and sweat" and she would not let the it close at any cost.

Swati Maliwal in an X post said, "LG sahab has issued a Tughlaqi order to remove all the contract staff of DCW. Today, the Women's Commission has a total staff of 90 out of which only 8 people have been provided by the government, the rest are on 3-month contracts. If all the contract staff is removed, the Women's Commission will be locked."

"Why are these people doing this? This institution has been built with blood and sweat. Instead of giving it staff and protection, you are destroying it from its roots? I will not let the Women's Commission be closed as long as I am alive. Put me in jail, don't torture women!," her post in Hindi read.

Earlier in the day, in an order Delhi LG had sacked 223 employees of the commission calling their appointments a "violation of rule". According to ANI reports, the order was based on audit responses provided by the DCW, existing records, and guidelines issued by the government.

The order referred to the Delhi Commission for Women Act, noting that the panel is sanctioned for 40 employees, yet 223 new positions were created without the approval of the Lieutenant Governor.
