'What Kind Of Friend Was Nidhi': DCW Chief Swati Maliwal Says Woman With Kanjhawala Victim Must Be Probed

In a video, Maliwal questioned Nidhi on why she had kept silent till the police traced her on the basis of footage from CCTV cameras.

New Delhi: Delhi Commission for Women chief Swati Maliwal on Wednesday slammed Nidhi, deceased Anjali's friend who was with her on the night of the horrific accident, for repeatedly defaming the 20-year-old victim.

In a video, Maliwal questioned Nidhi on why she had kept silent till the police traced her on the basis of footage from CCTV cameras.

She said, "Anjali's friend has put the blame on her. She was with Anjali when the accident happened. She left the spot and went home. Didn't she feel the need to inform (the) police or Anjali's family about what had happened?

"She could have followed the car that was dragging Anjali, who must have been crying for help. She could have done something so that Anjali's life could have been saved. What kind of friend is she?," Maliwal said.

She further stated in the video that Nidhi should also be probed.

She further urged people to stop questioning the morals of the Kanjhawla victim in the aftermath of claims made by her friend.

Anjali Singh was killed after being hit and dragged by a car in Delhi's Sultanpuri area on New Year. The victim's friend who was riding a pillion at the time of the accident claimed that the deceased was drunk at the time and had insisted on riding the two-wheeler.

CCTV footage sourced from outside of Nidhi's residence revealed that she reached home at around 2.30 am. In the footage, she can be seen waiting outside the gate as no one opens the door even after knocking.

"Call detail records of the deceased woman, her friend Nidhi, and four accused have been collected. An analysis of records is pending which will confirm their location at the time of the incident," Delhi Police said as quoted by ANI.
