The charge sheet, which runs over 6,500 pages, consisted of testimonies of 100 witnesses, as well as forensic and electronic evidence from the case.

New Delhi: Delhi Police filed a 6,629-page charge sheet against Aaftab Amin Poonawala in the Shraddha Walkar murder case before Delhi's Saket court on Tuesday afternoon. The accused Aftab Poonawala was produced in the court through video conferencing.

Aaftab Poonawalla is accused of killing his live-in partner, Shraddha Walkar, and then chopping her body into several pieces. After killing her, he stored the body parts in a 300-liter refrigerator and disposed of them in the Chhatarpur forest near his house over a period of three months.

The charge sheet, which runs over 6,500 pages, consisted of testimonies of 100 witnesses, as well as forensic and electronic evidence from the case which the police gathered after months of investigations and searches.

It is currently being reviewed by legal experts.

The court extended Aftab's judicial custody by two weeks to February 7. The court has also ordered the police to produce him physically before the court on February 7.

During the court proceedings, Metropolitan Magistrate Aviral Shukla asked how many pages were there in the charge sheet, the investigating officer said it has 6,629 pages.

"It is voluminous," the judge said.

"The charge sheet has finally been placed before the court today," he added.

Today during the hearing, Aftab asked the magistrate if he would receive the charge sheet and stated that it should not be handed to his counsel since he intends to change his present lawyer.

The magistrate said that cognizance of the charge sheet will be taken on February 7.

The District Magistrate noted that a copy of the charge sheet will only be made available to the accused after taking cognizance.

On January 4, the police said samples of hair and bones recovered by them from a forest area in South Delhi's Mehrauli matched with Shraddha's. Earlier on December 9, the Saket Court extended Aftab's judicial custody by 14 days.
