Kolkata News: Abhijit Mondal, the officer-in-charge of Tala Police Station, has been suspended following his arrest by the CBI in connection with the RG Kar Hospital rape and murder case, Kolkata Police informed on Wednesday. This comes after CBI custody of Mondal, along with Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, was extended by three days by the Sealdah court on Tuesday.

Mondal was suspended according to the service rules of the West Bengal government, officials told news agency PTI. The rules mandate that a government employee in custody for a period exceeding 48 hours under any law providing for preventive detention or as a result of a proceeding either on a criminal charge or otherwise, shall be deemed to have been suspended by an order of the appointing authority.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested Mondal on 14th September for his alleged involvement in tampering with evidence and delaying the registration of the FIR related to the case. Ghosh was previously arrested on 2nd September over alleged financial irregularities at the hospital and now faces additional charges of evidence tampering.
