CCTV footage from inside the emergency room shows a few men standing next to the woman, who is on a hospital bed. Moments later, the doctor, Jaideepsinh Gohil, enters and asks them to remove their shoes. A heated argument ensues, and the men begin to attack the doctor.
Despite multiple attempts by the woman on the bed and the nursing staff to intervene, the assault continued. Medical equipment and supplies in the room were also damaged during the altercation.
Suspects Arrested
The suspects, identified as Hiren Dangar, Bhavdeep Dangar, and Kaushik Kuvadiya, were arrested under sections 115(2) (intent to cause harm), 352 (intentional insult to provoke breach of peace), 351(3) (criminal intimidation), and other relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The assault on the doctor took place amid the ongoing protests in Kolkata, where doctors have taken to the streets demanding stronger laws for their safety and protection. The protests began after the rape and murder of a doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in August.
