First Successful Landing At Noida International Airport, Commercial Trials In December; Know First Flight Date

The Noida (Jewar) International Airport is set to start operations in April 2025 with two runways and a capacity of 12 million passengers, aims to reduce Delhi airport traffic.

Noida (Jewar) Airport News: Set to become a major aviation hub, the Noida International Airport in Gautam Buddh Nagar is advancing towards its first operational milestone. Slated for trials in December 2024, the airport is preparing to welcome its inaugural flight in April 2025, transforming Uttar Pradesh’s connectivity landscape and significantly reducing the load on Delhi’s IGI Airport.

The airport, developed by the Zurich Airport International AG over 1,334 hectares, will initially feature two runways and is designed for smooth passenger flow, with access points from the Yamuna Expressway and dedicated commercial vehicle routes from the rear.

Additionally, the airport’s four-phase development plan, under a 40-year contract with Zurich, targets an eventual passenger capacity of 70 million, or 7 crore, passengers. The first phase, with a capacity of 12 million passengers, will start operations in April 2025, followed by incremental expansions to meet the projected passenger numbers over time.

Airline Partnerships And Upcoming Trials

Kiran Jain, Chief Operating Officer of Noida International Airport, told ABP News that partnerships with IndiGo and Akasa Airlines were already in place, with both signing respective memoranda of understanding (MOUs) to operate at the airport. The airport's aerodrome licence application is currently underway, and one runway has been completed in preparation to operate its first flights in April 2025.

Trial operations, originally planned for September, were rescheduled to December due to construction delays. Nearly 8,000 individuals, including labourers, engineers, and officers, are working in full swing to complete the facility on time. Between mid-November and mid-December, the airport will host trial flights to assess operational readiness.

Successful Calibration Landing And Enhanced Connectivity

A successful calibration landing was recently completed on the runway, marking an important technical milestone.

According to Arun Veer Singh, CEO of the Yamuna Expressway Authority, 25 domestic and three international flights have been booked for the initial trials. If trials proceed as planned, the first flight is expected to take off by April 17, 2025.

Connectivity to the Noida International Airport will be a unique feature, with planned integration of ground railway, Metro rail, Rapid Metro, and even bullet train facilities within the airport complex, courtesy of the Indian Railways. The multi-modal approach aims to improve passenger convenience and establish the airport as a model of seamless transport connectivity.

Projected to generate substantial revenue, the Noida International Airport is expected to contribute 40 to 50 percent of Uttar Pradesh’s aviation revenue, with approximately Rs 400.97 per passenger, benefiting the state government. This boost is anticipated to fuel economic growth in the region, solidifying Noida and the NCR area as a major economic engine for Uttar Pradesh.
