Nashik: The residents of Malegaon in Maharashtra's Nashik, were left on edge after an 'underwear' gang broke into a house and a college and stole not just gold and cash but bananas as well. The robbery incidents took place on Monday late night and were captured on a CCTV camera.

The robbers, who were captured in the CCTV camera while breaking into the premises, were seen wearing vests and trunks, a signature attire of the 'chaddi baniyan' gang. The thieves stole nearly 70 grams of gold, Rs 5 lakh cash, and bananas, NDTV reported.

In the footage, four people can be seen, out of which one was keeping guard while the other three forcefully opened the doors of the premises to rob. This incident in Malegaon comes on the heels of a string of robberies by another group active in the area-- the 'gown' gang.

The 'chaddi baniyan' gang is infamous for committing a series of attacks in other parts of the country as well. Members of this gang have a signature style of committing crimes while wearing underwear. They also carry sharp weapons sometimes to scare their targets. However, it remains unclear if the Nashik robbery, which was carried out by the 'underwear' gang, is linked to the multiple groups committing such robberies across India, or if the 'underwear' attacks are merely a modus operandi to mislead investigators, NDTV reported.

The 'gown' gang was captured on security cameras dressed in women's gowns as they targeted residential neighbourhoods. Last week, they reportedly stole money from a temple donation box besides burgling several homes. The gang targeted multiple homes in Malegaon and its members were seen armed with sharp weapons.

The spate in the robery incidents in Malegaon has sparked tension among the residents, who are seeking immediate police action in the matter to ensure their safety. "The 'gown' gang had already sparked fear in our community, and now with the 'underwear' gang striking as well, people are even more worried. We need the authorities to act quickly before things get worse," Times Now reported a local resident as saying.
