Kolkata doctor rape-murder case: As junior doctors continue their protests to demand justice for the trainee doctor who was raped and murdered at the RG Kar Hospital in Kolkata, healthcare professionals from various private hospitals formed a human chain along the EM Bypass in Kolkata to showcase their protest and demand justice.
Several doctors were seen lined up along the bypass from Patuli to Beleghata as they formed a human chain in the city during the protest.

Earlier today, the had called people to come together and join them in making a human chain. The invitation, which was shared on social media, asked people from all corners of the society to join the human chain on Tuesday along Kolkata's EM Bypass.
"Healthcare workers are inviting people from all corners of the society. Please join this human chain along EM Bypass, Kolkata on 3rd September at 5 pm to appeal for Justice to the victim of RG Kar Medical College & Hospital. Please inform everyone to join," a post shared on X read.
Last month, a massive number of healthcare professionals gathered on several roads in Kolkata on August 19, forming human chains to showcase their protest against the junior doctor's rape and murder at the state-run medical institute on August 9.
Visuals of another human chain formed by protestors at Golpark in the Bengal capital on August 24 had surfaced on the internet.
The West Bengal Assembly on Tuesday, September 3, passed the state anti-rape bill, called the Aparajita Women and Child (West Bengal Criminal Law Amendment) Bill 2024. The opposition in the state, the BJP and CPI-M, granted their support to it. The bill aims to introduce stricter capital punishments, including death sentence and life imprisonment, for those accused of committing crims against women and children.

Junior Doctors Continue Sit-in Protest In Kolkata Even After 23 Hours
Junior doctors of various medical colleges, who took out a rally to the Police headquarters at Lalbazar, demanding resignation of Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal, remained stationed even on Tuesday, over 23 hours after they were stopped from marching furter.
The doctors were also joined by common people, including students from other educational institutions. They had spent an entire night on the BB Ganguly street on Monday. They stayed put at the same street after being stopped around half a kilometre before the police headquarters.
The protestors were stopped by the Kolkata police, who were deployed in huge numbers at the spot on the other side of the barricades. The junior doctors had also placed the replica of a spine and red roses on the barricade, which they claimed was to emphasise the duty of the police force to protect citizens, PTI reported.
Additional Police Commissioner of the Kolkata Police, Santosh Pandey, had visited the protest site to hold talks with the doctors and pacify them. However, it did not turn out as he had wished, since the doctors continued their demand to be allowed to march towards the headquarters and for the police commissioner hand over his resignation.
