Former President Of Atlas Cycles Dies After Shooting Self, Alleges Harassment By Some People

A suicide note has also been recovered from the crime scene. The note accuses some people of harassment, the Delhi Police said.

Salil Kapoor, the former president of Atlas Cycles, allegedly shot himself to death at his residence at Doctor APJ Abdul Kalam Lane in the national capital, Delhi Police said on Tuesday.

Kapoor, 65, was found dead on the ground floor of his three-storey house. He was rushed to AIIMS, Delhi, where the doctors declared him dead, according to a report in The Indian Express.

The Delhi Police, meanwhile, said that the police personnel are present at the spot and is investigating the matter from all possible angles. The incident surfaced after the family members found Kapoor's body lying in a pool of blood near the puja room inside the house.

A suicide note has also been recovered from the crime scene. In the purported suicide note, the 65-year-old mentioned financial burden on him and harassment by four people. The police, however, refused to divulge the names of the people citing the ongoing investigation. 

A police officer said Salil Kapoor, whose wife and children were not staying with him, is suspected to have shot himself with a licensed revolver. Salil Kapoor's wife and three children - two sons and a daughter - were staying separately from him, the police officer said. After getting separated, his wife was stated to be residing in Dubai, an officer said. 

The note accuses "four to five" people who were allegedly "physically, mentally and telephonically" torturing him, the report said.

Salil Kapoor Was Arrested In 2015

Earlier in 2015, Salil Kapoor was arrested by the Economic Offences Wing of the Delhi Police in two cases of cheating involving Rs 9 crore. His sister-in-law Natasha Kapoor also committed suicide in the same house in January 2020. 

Kapoor was arrested by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Delhi Police in 2015 in connection with two cases of cheating involving an amount of Rs 9 crore.

He was booked in two separate cases at south Delhi's Defence Colony police station in 2014 which were also probed by the EOW. The officer said in one of the cases, the complainant had alleged that he was cheated by Kapoor on the pretext of purchasing capital gain bonds. During investigations, the police had also announced a bounty of Rs 25,000 on him.
