Mumbai Hit-And-Run case: The key accused in the Mumbai hit-and-run case Mihir Shah has been remanded to police custody for the next seven days till July 16 by the Sewri court in Mumbai. Shah was finally arrested by the police on Tuesday, two days after he allegedly rammed his BMW into a two-wheeler, killing a woman after dragging her by his car, in a bid to flee the spot. Her husband sustained injuries in the incident.


Shah was produced before Sewri court's chief metropolitan magistrate S P Bhosale today, who sent him to the seven-day police custody.






During the hearing, police told the Mumbai court that the crime was cruel and heartless, news agency PTI reported.


The police stated that the 24-year-old accused should be given maximum custody as it needs to be discovered who helped Mihir Shah to flee and hide. The car's number plate is yet to be found as well as it was discarded by the accused after the incident.


They also told the court that it is yet to be discovered whether the accused possesses a car driving license.


CM Eknath Shinde Sacks Accused's Father As Shiv Sena Deputy Leader


Earlier today, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Shiv Sena's supremo, sacked Rajesh Shah, as the party’s deputy leader. Rajesh Shah is the father of key accused Mihir Shah and politician from Palgarh district.


A one-line notice issued by Shiv Sena secretary Sanjay More stated that Rajesh Shah has been relieved from the post of the party’s deputy leader. However, he will continue to be a member of the party.

According to the police, the leader had actively ensured his son's escape after the BMW crash. He was arrested on Sunday after being questioned by the police. As of now he is out on bail.


'Culprit Will Not Be Spared': Shinde


On suspension of accused Rajesh Shah from Shiv Sena, CM Eknath Shinde said: "The priority should be the action being taken against the accused and to support the victim..."


In view of opposition's mounting criticism following the incident, Shinde said: "The opposition just blames, they do not have anything else do to apart from blaming...I have given instructions that whoever the culprit in the hit-and-run case is will not be spared. Strict action will be taken..." 






Meanwhile, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray stated: "We are hopeful that justice will be given. No one needs any other help or relief. We all just have to see what happens to Mihir Rajesh Shah, and what action is taken..."






Driver Bidawat, who was also present in the car at the time of the accident, is already in police custody till July 11. He allegedly swapped driver's seat with Mihir Shah.
