RG Kar Doctor Death: Bengal BJP Demands CM Mamata's Resignation, Accuses TMC Govt Of Destroying Evidence

BJP state president Sukanta Majumdar demanded Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee's resignation and accused the TMC-led government of destroying evidence before the CBI's involvement.

RG Kar Doctor Death: Bharatiya Janata Party state president Sukanta Majumdar on Wednesday demanded the resignation of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over the deteriorating law and order situation in the state after the recent incident of the alleged rape and murder of a junior doctor at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital last week left the nation in shock.

Pointing fingers at the state government over the way the case was handled after the incident took place, Majumdar alleged that the police are trying to hide things and questioned whom the government was trying to protect since it was initially called a case of suicide.

Sukanata Majumdar had also written to Union Health Minister JP Nadda two days ago, seeking his intervention in the matter.

Underlining how the family was being "pressurised" by the police to perform the last rites of the victim, the BJP leader further claimed that it was an attempt aimed at destroying all the evidence.

"In such incidents, biological evidence is very important, whether it's skin, semen, or other things that need to be considered. These are crucial for further investigation. Removing all of this before the CBI gets involved or delaying handing it over to the CBI raises serious questions," he said.

Referring to the renovation work that was carried out at the hospital premises right across the seminar hall where the incident took place, Majumdar claimed that pieces of evidence were destoryed when the wall in the hospital was broken and things were being removed.

The Union Minister of State did not mince words in holding Mamata Banerjee accountable for the incident at the state-run medical facility. Calling it a "disgraceful and shameful matter", he demanded the TMC supremo's resignation if she has "any sense of accountability."

Majumdar said that the Kolkata incident was unusual because a government employee died on duty in a government hospital, adding that nothing similar has happened in India anywhere else.

"That's why the law and order situation in Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's state has completely collapsed, and she should resign," he said.

Earlier today, the BJP state president had also slammed the Bengal CM in a post on X over the "dire state of women's safety in Bengal".

"Had she invested in real protection rather than empty promises, our daughters would not be forced to protest in the streets at midnight," he said.

Stressing that she must resign from her posts, he tweeted: "If she has any sense of accountability, she must resign immediately from her roles as CM, Home Minister, and Health Minister. Otherwise, the flames of the Protest & other movements demanding justice for women will continue to challenge her and her ineffective govt."

This comes as the Calcutta High Court ordered the CBI to take over the matter from the Kolkata Police amid the boiling protests by various medical organisations and medical professionals across the country.

The arrested accused Sanjay Roy, a civic volunteer, had also confessed to his crimes during interrogation and demanded capital punishment for himself.
